30th anniversary of N. California classic road race

Saturday marked the 30th anniversary of Northern California's Copperopolis road race. The 21 mile loop winds its way up a rocky canyon, around a reservoir and through ranch land over terrible pavement that's almost legendary in these parts... a true spring classic. A reasonably mild day saw more than 500 riders test themselves and their equipment over the hard scrabble course.

I spent five hours shooting the action. Click the title image above to visit the race gallery. This is a new feature for VeloDramatic that allows for print purchases through Zenfolio. Hope you all enjoy it and if you were racing at Copperopolis thanks for putting on a good show.

I like your wordpress look a lot especially the photo album what Vladimir Prelovac template has all this? The reason I ask is I plan to start a new cross country cycling blog. Thanks!

    • Hi Dustin,

Unfortunately Vladimir’s “Blue Grace” template was just the starting point for VeloDramatic, and virtually everything here has been highly customized… even Vladimir didn’t recognize it without peeking under the covers.

I started with his template because he really understands WP, SEO and produces clean, semantic code.

I recall thinking to myself during the final lap that “someone should put a road here someday” It’s been many years since I did that event and the pics brought back some good memories. I also recall the VeloPromo entry form specifically mentioned that a rider should bring a spare set of wheels. I recall that this was a two stage event with a criterium the next morning? Back when I did it you had to finish top 50 on Saturday to get into the crit on Sunday.

    • BR,

I loved all the different colors of asphalt. It looked like a giant had just thrown handfuls of different colors and textures everywhere.

    I had to check….

Course: This is the same course as always: Milton, Rock Creek, Salt Spring Valley, Hunt, Milton Roads, counter clockwise loop. A 21 mile loop of fair to bad paving, two climbs and a fast, bumpy, twisty descent. Strong wheels, thick tires and no loose water bottle holders or dentures recommended. Tighten all your bolts (including brakes, brake hoods, seat bolts and stem bolts)! Please riders, use the facilities and stay off of private property!! No gas or phones available in Milton.
