No real internet connection to be had yet. First night we camped in single man tents by a lake. Group was knackered after 140 miles. Next night we roughed it at Housekeeping Camp in Yosemite vallley.
We’re in Mammoth Lakes preparing for a 105 mile day but the profile is for tons of descending. Yesterday I led the peloton out through Yosemite On the “camera” bike; nice to get to ride with them for a few easy miles all the time taking photos off the back of the modified cross bike. Worked out quite well for a first time experimental rig.
Many of you have visited these places in the American West but it is difficult to find words to do them justice, at least while typing them on an iPhone at 5 am.
Our caravan is set to hit the road at 7:30 am sharp today so I’m cutting it short now to go load cameras and gear in the photo car. Much more to tell.

Can’t wait to see the pictures. This an inspiring ride.
Which lake… a budy of mine said he saw a group of Specialized riders rolling through Turlock.
Trying to figure out if you guys went up 108/120 or 41.
Looking forward to some stunning shots from this one, do keep posting and if you can get some sneaky shots from the iPhone please feel free to post to keep the masses at bay!
Sounding like a great trip already Michael 🙂
Like everyone else, looking forward to the pics, movies and tales!
(and trying to contemplate doing 100+ miles in one go…. my legs are aching at the thought).
You’ll no doubt have met Western Spirit guide Simon, by now, moonlighting on this ride. Be sure to give him ‘what for’ from his pals in the Midwest…

Western Spirit rocks. The whole gang including Simon and Mark looked after us dawn to dusk every day with great food and energy at the campsites and motels along the way. And they all managed to ride one or two days along the way.
the suspense is killing the drama rises and the caravan rolls on, Good Luck and be safe, till the next instalment Michael.
